Pantygwydr Church Building- the history
Pantygwydr Church Building is an important landmark in the Uplands and Brynmill community.
On the 2nd March 1907, the Evening Express paper announced “New Swansea Chapel - Pantygwydr new Baptist Chapel at Swansea has been opened.” “The Church now possesses one of the finest buildings in the town.”
Designed by the Swansea based architect Charles T. Ruthen, the “exquisitely designed new structure at the junction of Glamor Crescent and Glanbrydan Avenue” was expected to cost about £4750. It was described, at its opening, as a “fine, noble church - a pretty addition to the ecclesiastical architecture of Swansea to replace the iron chapel in Gorse Lane.”
