Frequently Asked Questions

What time are the services at Pantygwydr?

Our services take place every Sunday at 9.15am and 11am.

What happens in the services?

There will be a time of prayer, and teaching on a passage from the Bible. There will be lovely music and singing. In the 9.15 service there will be traditional hymns, and in the 11am service there will be a contemporary music group singing modern songs. Afterwards everyone will have a chance to chat and socialise. You will be very welcome to join and everyone is very friendly.

How long do the services last?

The 9.15 service lasts 45 minutes, and ends around 10am. The 11am Family Service lasts around 75 minutes and ends at 12.15.

What type of church is Pantygwydr?

Pantygwydr is a Baptist church. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that through Jesus' death and resurrection, a person can be reconciled to God and enter into a personal relationship with Him. When a person has made a personal commitment to following Jesus, they are baptised in a pool symbolising a new life in Christ.

For Baptists the concept of family is important. The church is not so much a particular place or building, but rather a family of believers, committed to Christ, to one another and to the service of God in the world.

What should I wear?

Come as you are – there’s no dress code.

Is the building accessible to wheelchair users?

Yes, our building is wheelchair accessible and we have accessible toilets. The seating in the Sanctuary can be moved, so anyone in a wheelchair is able to attend the service.

Is there a student group in Pantygwydr?

Lots of students make Pantygwydr their home whilst in Swansea, no matter where you’ve come from. Our pastors Matt and Ian are University Chaplains. Amongst the congregation you will find many people who lecture or work in the University. There are opportunities to meet with the local community. It’s a very friendly church.

Can I bring my children?

We have a programme especially for children during the 11am service. For children under school age who are not old enough to join in with Sunday Club we provide a crèche room with toys and the facility to watch the service being streamed online.

What activities are there for children and young people?

On Sundays, there is a Sunday School called Sunday Club and a youth group with craft, games and teaching. After the service, the young people enjoy refreshments together in the hall, with plenty of time to chat and make friends. We run a group called Limitless on a Monday night too and regular trips out for the youth. In the summer, we host a fun-filled Holiday Bible Club for junior-age children. Our Youth Pastor, Ian, is always round to offer encouragement and support.

When do you have communion services?

Communion services (some churches call this the Lord's Supper) are usually once a month. In the 9.15 service it's normally on the second Sunday in the month, while for the 11 o'clock service it's the third Sunday.

What opportunities are there for prayer and Bible study?

We organise several small groups during the week both in people’s homes or in the church itself, including Bread Bible study on a Sunday night. There are also monthly prayer meetings on a Saturday morning for the women.

What if you have questions about the Christian faith or have not been to church before? Do you have to be a Christian to attend?

You don’t have to be a Christian to attend. Everyone is welcome with us, and you will find people warm and ready for a chat after the services.

We run the Alpha course which is an opportunity to ask any questions in a relaxed and open atmosphere in a small group setting.

What other activities are there for the community to join in if I’m not ready to attend a service?

Why not try our Wellness Café on a Tuesday afternoon? There are games, puzzles, a pool table and weekly crafts along with refreshments.

If you have little ones, you’re very welcome at Tiny Tots on Wednesday mornings 9.30 to 11.30am—a fun and friendly chance to play for preschool children and their carers.
